Study and Practice on Four Saturdays 2017
February 18, March 11, April 1, May 13
12:30-1:15 Caretaking practice
1:30-4:15 Silent Retreat
Join us to explore the core Buddhist teaching of the seven factors of awakening. We study these seven teachings as both a description of the awakening that is already present and as a description of the path to realize that reality. As always, central to our inquiry for this class will be: What is the relevance of these teachings for our lives, including how we live in and work with our current political situation?
After lunch we will have the opportunity to apply the morning’s teaching through the traditional mindfulness practice of samu – caretaking of the Temple and grounds. Following that we will have afternoon Zen practice, with silent sitting, chanting, a dharma talk, and individual meetings.
After the class, all members of the Sangha are invited to gather together in a “Huddle” from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. to envision how to transform our energy into local and national political action to honor the Boundless Way Zen Four Commitments:
1) I commit myself to a culture of nonviolence and reverence for life; 2) I commit myself to a culture of solidarity and a just economic order; 3) I commit myself to a culture of acceptance and a life based on truthfulness; and 4) I commit myself to a culture of equal rights and partnership among all people.
No registration is necessary for the Huddle.
